Primed Listening and Token Coverage

How much of a video will you actually understand? This tool reads the words you’ve learned straight out of your Anki collection, then measures your token coverage for any subtitle file: the share of the content words spoken in it that you already know. Give it the YouTube link too and it follows along with the video, showing your coverage at every point.

With the video loaded you can also turn on primed listening. As each line starts, the video pauses just long enough for you to read it, then plays it so you hear it straight after. The subtitles only show while it’s paused, so the rest of the time you’re listening. Add an optional translation (English or any other language) and it primes you with that instead, while coverage still comes from the Japanese. If you’re logged in, the time the video actually plays is added to your Track (Active immersion › Primed Listening) — untick Track watch time under the video if you log it some other way.

Everything runs in your browser — your collection and subtitles never leave your computer.

1 Connect to Anki

What you need
  • Anki open on this computer, with the AnkiConnect and AnkiMorphs add-ons installed.
  • When you press Connect, Anki pops up a window asking whether this site may use AnkiConnect — click Yes. (Or add https://fazon.nexus to webCorsOriginList in AnkiConnect's config yourself.)
  • Your browser may also ask to allow access to devices on your local network — allow it, that's how the page talks to Anki. Chrome, Edge and Firefox work; Safari blocks it.
  • The tool only reads your collection (search + note contents). It never changes anything.
